Environment relating to Dublin West

Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012

• The Government’s commitment to protecting and enhancing our environment while supporting economic development is well reflected in the provision of €508 million for water services infrastructure in 2010. Average spending on water services over the period 2009 and 2010 will be up 3% on the 2008 outturn.
• In the period 2000 - 2009, the Exchequer has invested some €4.6 billion in the provision of water services infrastructure - some €2.8 billion on wastewater infrastructure and €1.8 billion on water supply infrastructure.
• Under the new programme, the largest area of investment relates to the Greater Dublin Water Supply Area, where the Programme provides for the continued consideration of the options for a scheme to provide a new long-term source to service growth in demand in the Greater Dublin Area.
• The new Programme is presented on a River Basin District basis to emphasise the increasing importance of river basin management in achieving the water quality objectives set down under the EU Water Framework Directive. Dublin is included in the Eastern River Basin District.
• Some €4.6 billion has been invested since 2000, of which some €2.8 billion has been spent on waste water infrastructure and some €1.8 billion on water supply infrastructure.
