New candidate David McGuinness alongside Brian Lenihan after Dublin West Selection ConventionCouncillor David McGuinness, who is Fianna Fail’s youngest County Councillor in Ireland aged 24, has been selected to contest the General Election alongside Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan in Dublin West. The party selected both candidates in a selection convention held in Tyrrelstown on Sunday 23rd January.

We need new, young and fresh politicians being elected to the next Dail and the people of Dublin West are being offered the best candidates by Fianna Fail in the next general election.

David is from Corduff and continues to live and work in Corduff. He teaches in Riversdale Community College holding an Honours Degree from Trinity College Dublin in Music Education and History. He was elected to Fingal County Council in June 2009 at the age of 22 and has worked non-stop in providing the best quality representation to the people in Corduff, Ladyswell, Huntstown, Hartstown, Clonsilla, Ongar, Clonee, Tyrrelstown, The Ward and Laraghcon. He now seeks to represent Blanchardstown, Castleknock and Swords too.

David believes this next general election is about 3 main things:

  • Jobs: We have the capacity to lead a recovery for the people of Dublin West and we can lead a national recovery for all of the people of this island.
  • Education: bringing school building projects to a speedy conclusion and continuing to invest in our schools and our students to provide the best quality education and facilities.
  • Political reform: working to rebuild public confidence in our political system through real reform of our Seanad, constitution and our legislative system which is accessible to the people and supported by the people.

David is committed to Education in Dublin 15 serving Blakestown Community School, Castleknock Community College, Luttrellstown Community College, Coolmine Community School and Pobal Scoil Setanta (Phibblestown) in Ongar. He also serves on Blanchardstown Local Drugs Task Force and on County Dublin VEC. He has been a member of Fingal County Council’s Special policy Committee on Planning and Housing. He has also maintained his role on Corduff Sports Centre.

While David can not claim credit for many of the achievements gained over the past number of years in areas like schools, motorway and road-infrastrucure development, and community facilities, he is equally not to blame for the issues facing Irish citizens as he is so young and new to politics. However, David commits to working on behalf of the people of Dublin west to address their issues relentlessly as part of the next Dail.

David is thankful to Brian Lenihan who has continually supported and encouraged David in his political career. David will fight this election alongside Brian Lenihan and hopes that a united ticket will lead to electoral success in this election and that the party can build on this success to win at later elections also. Brian has huge support in Dublin West and the party will stand united behind Brian in his bid to seek reelection and in his candidacy as president and leader of the Fianna Fail party.
