Mulhuddart Village where nightclub may become a supermarket
The old Nightclub at The Shanty Pub (since named Paidi Og) may become a shop belonging to a large supermarket chain. Under a recent application to Fingal County Council, a company called North Port Ltd. have requested a change in the use of this premises from Nightclub status to retail unit (shop).
The application reads:
FW10A/0040 05-Mar-2010 Permission
Applicant: North Port Limited
Location: Paidi Og’s Public House, Formerly ‘The Lodge’, Junction Of Church Road, And Old Navan Road, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15
Proposed Development:
Planning permission for development to the rear of the existing building
known as Paidi Og’s Public House. The development consists of a change of
use of the rear portion of the building (c. 480sqm) from nightclub to retail unit (shop).
Planning permission is also sought for an external ATM on the western elevation, alterations
to the existing western facade, elevational signage, subsidiary alcohol sales, ancillary plant,
a free standing sign and all ancillary site development works and services.
‘Councillor David McGuinness met today, Tuesday 27th April 2010, with Business representatives from the Mulhuddart Village area. They have raised a number of concerns relating to this addition to Mulhuddart village. The potential may well bring jobs to Dublin 15 and an increased availability of places to shop for more competitively-priced goods with a great variety. However, existing businesses in the village have outlined the following points:
1. Large Supermarket chains can blow smaller home-grown retail units out of the water.
2. There exists major traffic issues within the village area currently.
3. Other businesses may need to close due to increased competition countering the creation of jobs as job loses would be a result of smaller businesses closing.
4. Lack of improvment to the character or streetscape of the village.
5. The area is located next to a floodplain with regular overflows into the carpark which has also seen raw sewage entering the area.’
‘David McGuinness wants to know residents feel about his news. Unfortunately, the period of time for lodging observations or objections with Fingal County Council has elapsed. This will be looked at closely by Councillor McGuinness to ensure proper process has been followed as local business representatives have raised concerns relating to the process to date as a previous application for this site was withdrawn and those site notices were replaced with the new notices.’
In short, David wants to hear community views on this proposed Supermarket. If it affects you or you have any views on it, get in touch and I will take your views on board. I hope you find this information of interest.
