- New primary school in the Clonsilla area
Councillor David McGuinness recently raised the issue of access and parking with Fingal County Council for the new primary school on the Porterstown Road, Scoil Choilm, in light of concerns raised by Principal Treasa Lowe. Although Fingal County Council provided a much needed walkway from the Diswellstown roundabout on the Porterstown Road, some parents have continued to drive to the school and this was causing a difficulty for school authorities.
CMA/49/10 Councillor David McGuinness
Scoil Choilm, Porterstown Road – Parking and Traffic Management
It was proposed by Councillor D. McGuinness, seconded by Councillor M. Murray:
“That the Manager report on the accessibility to, and parking for parents of students attending, Scoil Choilm, Clonsilla, in light of recent difficulties surrounding overcrowding at the school in morning and evenings and Garda issues with parents parking near the new walkway to the Diswellstown roundabout.”
The following report by the Manager was READ:
“32 no. carparking spaces have been provided for general use at Scoil Choilm, Porterstown. An additional wheelchair accessible car parking space and drop off and pick up facilities have also been provided within the grounds of the school. Management of these facilities is a matter for the school authorities.
Fingal County Council has provided a pedestrian walkway from the roundabout on Diswellstown Road near Dr. Troy Bridge to the Porterstown Road to facilitate parents who wish to walk their children to the school. In addition the County Council has provided traffic calming measures on Porterstown Road on the approaches to the entrance to the school in the form of 2 no. sets of traffic calming speed cushions. A School Warden Service was recently provided on the road near the entrance to the school.
In recent weeks, the Gardaí at Blanchardstown launched a “Careless Parking at Schools Initiative” to target parents parking outside schools on an ongoing basis at school opening and closing times. Enforcement of the law in relation to illegal parking in the environs of the roundabout or on Porterstown Road outside the school is a matter for the Gardaí.”
Following discussion, the Committee NOTED the foregoing report.
